KEY TEXT: Psalms 104:27-30 These all look to you, to give them their food in due season. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things. When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. When you send forth your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.
KEY THOT: Knowing God is the path to the divine blessings of providence, life and abundance. The devil has blinded many to the truth of God's love, depriving humanity faith, hope and love. The psalmist says that all creatures of God look to Him for their food in season. They lack nothing because God opens his hand towards them and "they are filled with good things" (v.28). The devil has deceived humanity to think that faith in God is the reason for terrible things happening in this world. But the truth is without God, our breath stops and we "die and return to their dust" (v.29). On the contrary, when God's Spirit comes, He brings life and renews and repairs our broken lives: "When you send forth Spirit, they are created and you renew the face of the ground" (v.30).
Sadly, even church-goers remain spiritually, mentally and emotionally broken--despite what Christ has done for them at the Cross to bring salvation into their lives. Jesus does not just save us from the hell of afterlife but from the hell created by our sin in this life. The Cross cancels out our sins so that we may receive God's forgiveness and be healed of all our brokenness. We need to recognize that the ultimate root of our broken lives is sin--not God. Not even the devil. But the devil has deceived many in thinking that faith in God will make things worse. What a lie! Even church-goers believe that it's really up to us to make it in this life. But we were created for God and He is the One who has given us breath and life. But He wants to do more for us because we are His creatures.
Many believers have received salvation through Christ. But we have kept it safely buried underground--until Christ returns. We are like the foolish servant who has received one talent and buried it, instead of using it to multiply blessings for himself and others in this life. Many believers have similarly kept their salvation buried instead of working it out to renew and repair broken lives: "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure" (Philippians 2:12-13).
May God open our hearts to receive His blessings more and more and not shut ourselves from the only One who can protect us from evil and provide us with all good things.
Abba Father, we come against the lie of the devil that has stolen our spiritual birthrights as Your children. May You restore to Your people faith, hope and love in You. Amen.
