Jeremiah 31:1-6 Restoration of Israel

KEY TEXT: Jeremiah 31:1‭, ‬4‭-‬5  “At that time, declares the Lord , I will be the God of all the clans of Israel, and they shall be my people.”  Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin Israel! Again you shall adorn yourself with tambourines and shall go forth in the dance of the merrymakers.  Again you shall plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant and shall enjoy the fruit."

KEY THOT: This prophecy does not refer to the return of the exiles from Babylon in the 5th century B.C., for the returnees then were mainly from the tribe of Judah, the southern kingdom. Hence they were known subsequently called Jews. This restored nation of Jewish nation lasted about 500 years before the Roman army under Titus destroyed Jerusalem and its temple a second time in AD 70.

However, this Jeremiah prophecy refers to the restoration of the "clans of Israel", the northern kingdom. And the returnees will come from the ends of earth: "Behold, I will bring them from the north country and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, the pregnant woman and she who is in labor, together; a great company, they shall return here" (v. 8 ). This can only refer to present-day Israel, which has seen in the last 50 years the massive emigration of Jews back to Israel from as far as Russia, Ethiopia and the Arab nations. This is truly a restoration of Israel from "the farthest parts of the earth."

What does it mean for us as Christians? Simply this: God's end time clock is ticking. And as believers it is time to step up in seeking the advancement of God's kingdom a earth. Our priority is not seeking personal advancement and self-actualization, but seeking the realization of God's rule over our land and people. It can be done only when the church stops playing church and starts engaging the world and Satan with the Gospel to set free captives of sins, sicknesses & spirits.

God has placed us believers in different stations of our society not to seek our own welfare but the welfare of the people around us by extending God's kingdom rule over them, so they too can experience the kingdom power and presence marked by "righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit" (Rom. 14:17).

Father, thank You that You are a faithful God and has fulfilled Your promise to restore Israel. Revive the Church from slumber to fill our destiny. Amen.
