Romans 5:12-19 Sin and Sickness Are Inherited Diseases

KEY TEXT: Romans 5:17 If, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.

KEY THOT: We have no problem accepting that sickness can be inherited because that is what medical science has been telling us. But in recent years, medical science has also discovered that there is a direct soul-body connection, meaning that the toxic thought-life (sin) in our mind (soul) is directly responsible for 85-97% of physical sicknesses (body). So, if we have believed that sickness can be inherited because medical science says so, now we can also believe that sin can be inherited through this mind-body connection.

This is consistent with God's Word: "because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man..." So, Adam's sin that causes sickness and death is passed on to all generations born of Adam because through this principle of inheritance, we not only inherited our parent's diseases, but also the root-cause which is sin (a toxic mindset filled with fear, anxiety, guilt and condemnation).

In fact, it has been found that a toxic thought life can actually alter the DNA code, switching specific gene on or off according to our thought-life. So, from a medical perspective, Adam's sin (toxic mindset) has actually distorted his DNA structure for death and disease. And this toxic mindset (sin) is passed on to future generation as the "flesh" (sinful nature embedded in our DNA): "For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh" (Romans 7:18).

But thanks be to God that Christ has come to reverse this principle of sin resulting in sickness and death with the principle of righteousness leading to life: "much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:17). Now, for believers, there are two principles at work in us: the principle of death in our sinful flesh leading to sickness and death and the principle of life in the Holy Spirit, leading to righteousness and health.

As our mind is renewed according the mind of Christ, the death-producing and sin-inducing DNA code inherited from Adam is being reset to become life-giving:  "be transformed by the renewal of your mind" (Romans 12:2). As we allow the truths of God's Word to renew our mind, our DNA is being reset for life and longevity to overcome sin, disease and ultimately death.

In Galatians 3:13, Paul explains how Adam's sentence of death for all mankind has been reversed by Christ's death on the cross: "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree"—so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith." So, the curse of sin (embedded in the DNA of our sinful flesh inherited from Adam) has been broken at the Cross.

So, from the moment we are in Christ, the death-principle is replaced by the life-principle that comes with the mind of Christ. As this new mindset (soul) is being renewed by God's Word, our body will be transformed for health and holiness through the same soul-body connection principle that medical science has affirmed.

So we are not victims of our biology--whether it be depression, physical addiction, gender identity or sexual orientation. We can be changed by resetting our DNA code through the renewal of our mind, for "we have the mind of Christ" (1 Corinthians 2:16). So, by releasing the mind of Christ in us through God's Word, we can now rewire our brain and renew our body to conform our desires with God's righteous requirements found in the Scripture.

Father, thank You that the death principle inherited from Adam has been broken and replaced by the life principle that we received from Christ our Lord. Amen.
