Psalm 121 The Lord is My Helper

KEY TEXT: Psalms 121:1-4 I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

KEY THOT: The Lord who is our helper is the Creator-God who made the heavens and the earth. If we have forgotten how big this God is, consider that our sun is but a medium-sized yellow star among 100 billions stars in our own galaxy system, known as the Milky Way. And God is bigger than that. But our Milky Way system of 100 billion stars is just one galaxy in our Universe containing more than 100 billions galaxies. And God is bigger than that.

Recent improvements in space telescope technology has raised the estimate to 200 billion galaxies. It seems like the more we can see, the more galaxies we will see. It boggles our human minds just to contemplate the immensity of our Universe. Space seems almost infinite. And God is bigger than that. In fact, God's Word tells us that the whole Universe is held together by Jesus Christ: "All things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together" (Colossians 1:16-17).

And the psalmist tells us this God of 200-billion galaxies is our Helper and our Keeper: "My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth" (v.2). And He never lets his sight off us individually for "he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep" (v.4). And He will keep us safe from all evil as we go about our daily business: "The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore" (vv.7-8).

Knowing how great our God is and how carefully He watches over us, let us cast out fear with God's perfect love. Let us instead embrace the truth of God's protection and preservation over us, so that we can go about our daily life with peace and security, knowing that no evil can come near us as long as we are walking with our Saviour and fulfilling His kingdom agenda.

Father, thank You for Your amazing love and care for us. Amen.
