Isaiah 52:7-10 Proclaiming Good News

KEY TEXT: Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns."

KEY THOT: Those who are engaged in evangelism are carriers of good news. They have beautiful feet as they share the good news to everyone that "Your God reigns!" And this is good news because it will bring peace, happiness and salvation. The world needs peace to counter daily anxiety and stress. The world needs happiness that does not depend on happenings but depends on knowing that our God reigns. The world needs salvation because it is on a self-destructive mode. No human institution can pull the world back from the abyss of another massive economic collapse, military conflicts between big powers, man-made and natural global calamities. Big power rivalry is increasing the temptation to exercise the nuclear option as pressures mount for these nations to assert their sovereignty and superiority over the others. The salvation that the world needs has to come from a Bigger Power above these contending nations. And that Power is Jesus Christ who is our God who reigns! He will come and save us.

In this season of Christmas, we have to think beyond the cosy Christmas lunches and dinners and candlelight services. Christ did not come to give us an excuse for partying and feasting--he came to save the world from their sins. He came to bring "good news of great joy that will be for all people" (Luke 2:10). And churches should take the opportunity during this Christmas season to reflect on what they can do to reach out to those who are still lost--without peace, without joy and without salvation.

Father, open our eyes and hearts to see what You see: the lost that are still without peace, without joy and without salvation, that we might be moved with compassion to share the Good News of Great Joy to them. Amen.
