KEY THOT: Jesus’ coming again means reward that may be good or bad: viz., redemption for the saints and judgment for the sinners. “bringing my recompense with me, to repay everyone for what he has done” (Rev 22:12, ESV). But it is God’s desire that Jesus’ return will be a day of reward, not a day of reckoning. So the invitation is still out: “The Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price” (Rev 22:17). Once Jesus has returned, there will be no more opportunity for salvation: “Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood” (Rev 22:14-15). The redeemed will be able to enter the City of Light by the gates, but not those who have remained unrepentant: those who engage in witchcrafts, sexual immorality, murders, idolatry, and falsehood will shut out of the City of Light.
The Spirit of God through the Bride of Christ (Church) is continually calling out to those who have yet to partake of its life to “come”. The Church of Jesus Christ has a primary task to call sinners to enter the City of God and not be left outside the gates of the City and be cast away forever from God’s presence.
May we rise up to our calling to preach good news while there is still time.
Father, thank You that You are the God who saves. We pray that You will cause the Bride of Christ to rise up to her calling to invite sinners to come to take the water of life without price. Amen.
