KEY THOT: The psalmist calls for all of creation to praise the name of the Lord, for God’s glory is written in everything He has created—both animate creatures and inanimate heavenly bodies. There is a sense of awe in Nature that tells of God’s glory: “For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made” (Rom 1:20). God’s creation is so intricate and complex, so marvelous and beautiful—yet we praise our iPhone 6+ more than we praise the Lord our God! Even the simple microscopic flagella (propellers) that provide locomotion to sperms and bacteria are marvels of divine engineering: they are made of precise organic rods, rings and hooks to make up a rotary system that spins at 25 revolutions per second!
We wow and rave over the latest human technological innovations. But God’s creative powers are far beyond human intelligence. Just studying the DNA structure is enough to boggle our human mind. The information contained in the DNA of one cell is estimated to be about 1.5 gigabytes. But don’t forget: there are about 100 trillion cells in an average human body. There isn't enough memory space in most of our desktop computers to store that much information.
So, let's spend more time and energy marveling at the glorious handiwork of God--from the microscopic world of DNA to natural world of animal and plant life and beyond to the immensity and infinity of space, stars and galaxies. Let’s not just wow aloud at human inventions and innovations But instead, let’s sing and shout aloud to the Lord our Creator who made all these glorious wonders in His creation.
Think about God when we look at His creation. Stop being beguiled by human innovations—however great they are, they are way below God’s intelligent and creative power reflected in His creations: “Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his majesty is above earth and heaven” (v.13).
Almighty God who made the heavens and the earth and everything in it, we praise You that You are not just our loving Father, but also our awesome and majestic Creator. Fill us with a sense of awe of Your glorious majesty and power as we gaze upon Your creations. Amen.
