KEY THOT: When we give to support God’s ministers and ministry, our own supply will not run dry. The widow of Zarephath obeyed the Lord’s command to give to His prophet the last cake of bread that she planned to bake for herself and her son. Elijah told her to bake a cake for him and also for herself and her son even though by human calculation the flour was only sufficient for herself and her son. But as it turned out as Elijah promised, the jar of flour and the jug of oil never ran out throughout the three-year famine. In giving her last meal to a prophet of God, the woman was blessed with unending supply for herself and her son.
Giving to support God’s ministers and missionaries and their work is a principle of faith that will release God’s provision in our lives. God’s ministers and missionaries are doing the Kingdom work under God’s direction. And they live by faith and depend on God to supply their needs. Very often God commands his people (rich and poor) to give sacrificially by faith too so that He could bless them with unending supply. Both the givers and the receivers are blessed when giving is done for the sake of God’s work: “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way for all your generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God” (2 Cor 9:10-11).
We must continue to support God’s ministers and missionaries who are doing God’s work. It’s only as we sow seeds of giving by faith that we will also reap God's harvest of supply by faith. This is not prosperity gospel—this is just a principle of faith given in both Old and New Testament scriptures. Those who give to support God’s servants will see their seeds multiplied even as they sow their seeds for God’s harvest. Jesus himself promises in Luke 6:38, “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
Father, thank You that You have stated clearly in Your Word that when we give to support Your ministers and missionaries who are doing Your kingdom work, You will bless the giver with unending supply of Your grace. Amen.
