Psalm 146: Loyalty is first to God, not Princes

KEY TEXT: Ps 146:3-6 Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever.

KEY THOT: We are blessed when our hope is in the Lord and our help is from the Lord. Why? Because he is the Creator-God who made the heaven and earth, including all life-forms on earth and in the sea. This is the God of Jacob who is faithful forever. In contrast, to put our faith in “princes” (a particular political leader or leadership or party) is foolish because "in a son of man... there is no salvation. When his breath departs he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.”

Even as GE2015 approaches, it is important to remember that our loyalty is first to God, not to “princes” or parties. It is God who has prospered Singapore and kept her safe. He has chosen for the last 50 years to work through a particular political party. But there is no reason why He can’t work through another group of people from another political party if He so desires, because ultimately, it is God, not political leaders, that “who keeps faith forever; who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry.” (vv.6-7). We pray that God would raise up competent and honest political leaders who are faithful to His agenda for Singapore, regardless of race, language, religion or party. We need a political leadership that is transparent and accountable to lead Singapore through the coming months and years as the world enters the great tribulation of “birth pains” before Christ returns.

Watch and pray as the world unravels in the coming months as it enters into the Jewish calendar year of the 50th year of Jubilee from 23 September 2015. God is setting up the world for a great shaking, so that only those nations that put their trust in Him will stand and not stumble.

So, whatever happens next, our first loyalty is to the Lord. We are members of the KOG Party (KOG: Kingdom of God), comprising Israel of God & the Church of Christ. We always vote as the Spirit directs in order that God's plan and purpose may come to pass. As a church, we don’t champion any political party or human government, but only the Lord’s kingdom: we vote for the God’s kingdom to come and God’s will to be done -- through any political party or leaders He might choose.

Don’t just vote wisely; vote prayerfully. God always exalt the humble and bring down the proud. Vote for the humble and God-fearing people.

Father, grant Your people wisdom to vote, not based on loyalty to human “princes” but loyalty to You alone. May we vote for Your Kingdom to come and Your will to be done on earth in Singapore as it is in heaven. Amen.
