Psalm 1: The Blessed Man

KEY TEXT: Ps 1:2-3 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

KEY THOT: The blessed man is one who takes God’s word seriously by meditating on it in order to obey its commands. Because of his obedience, he becomes like an evergreen tree planted next to the rivers of life; he is always fruitful and successful in every endeavor he puts his hand on. He never complains of running spiritually “dry” because the river sustaining the tree never runs dry.

If I am committed to studying God’s word to obey it, I can be assured that I will not run dry spiritually and my life and work will always be successful and my ministry always fruitful.

Daily meditation of God’s word is the way to keep my roots planted in the river of life. When I am planted daily in God’s word, I know that I will hear from God and obey Him.

Father, what a delight it is to meditate on Your word. Help us to love You so that Your word might be to us a love letter rather than a law book. Amen.
