1 John 5:9-13 Eternal Life is in Christ

KEY TEXT: 1 John 5:11-12 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

KEY THOT: Eternal life is found in the Son of God and when we have the Son of God, we also have His eternal life. It is not enough just to “believe” in Christ; we have to receive Him into our life. So John 1:12 says, “But to all who did RECEIVE him, who BELIEVED in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”

We have Christ's eternal life when we receive Christ into our lives as we believe in Him. When I have the Son, I have everything that the Son has: “For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's.” Because all things are Christ’s and I have Christ; so now in Christ I have all things: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” (Eph 1:3).

I am blessed because I have Christ who is my All in all. In order to experience the fullness of His blessings, I have to be in the place where His blessings can flow in and through me. I have been blessed in order to be a blessing. This is the Abrahamic covenant promised in Christ: "And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing" (Gen. 12:2).

Thank You Father that You have given me Your Son for in Him I have all things—both in heaven and on earth. Thank You in Christ, I have become co-heir with Him. Amen.
