Psalm 4 - God Answers the Prayer of the Godly

KEY VERSE: Ps 4:3 But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself; the Lord hears when I call to him. (ESV)
Ps 4:3 Realize that the Lord shows the godly special favor; the Lord responds when I cry out to him. (NET)

KEY THOT: God shows special favour to the godly by hearing the prayers of the godly.

The Hebrew word for “godly” is khasid, translated as “one who does what is right in God’s eyes and remains faithful to God” (NET footnote). The Lord sets such believers apart because they seek only to do what pleases God. When our lives are aligned with God’s will and purpose, His agenda has become our aspirations and so when we pray, it’s always “may Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Such missional prayers will always get God’s attention.

God has set me apart for special favour because I seek nothing for myself but to fulfill His kingdom purpose and will. The marks of success for me isn’t any of the four C’s (cash, condo, car and club membership) pursued by the materialistic and worldly-minded. For me, the marks of success are lives transformed by the Gospel of Christ and growing into servant-leaders of the Kingdom.

I will continue to invest my time, money and energy to making disciples of the lost generation, through Alpha evangelism and other teaching and mentoring ministry.

Father, it’s such a privilege and joy to serve You, to see lives transformed by the power of Your Word and Your Spirit. I wouldn’t exchange that for anything else the world may offer. Amen.
