Psalm 22:25-31 Christ Will be Proclaimed to the Nations

KEY TEXT: Ps 22:27-28 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you. For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.

KEY THOT: Psalm 22 is the messianic psalm explicating the blessings of Jesus’ atoning death at the Cross. The ultimate goal of the Gospel of the kingdom is not just getting sinners saved from this earth but restoring God’s rightful rule over the nations by evicting Satan and his minions from among the nations. Evangelism is not helping the elect ESCAPE this world but helping them ENGAGE this world by ENFORCING Christ’s rule over every realm of human culture.

While God always reigns by right as Creator (de jure), he only rules in actuality (de facto) when believers accept his right to rule over them and through them. What makes a church a kingdom is when God moves from de jure reign to de facto rule. When that happens, what Psalm 22:28 declares will come to pass: “For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.

Only then will kingdom presence and power be experienced inside the churches and outside in the workplaces.

As a servant of the Gospel, the goal of my ministry is to move people from just acknowledging God’s de jure reign to accepting God’s de facto rule over them as individuals, families and communities. Both inside the churches and outside, there are many Christians who believe God reigns but yet reject His rule over their lives, especially in the homes and in the workplaces: “Jesus is either Lord of all, or He is not Lord at all.”

I must therefore proclaim boldly the Good News that through Christ, God not only reigns but He now saves those who is willing to accept His rule over them, both here and in the hereafter. The rule of God is to be extended to all nations, not just inside the churches so that one day Christ’s beneficent rule will be restored over every sphere of human activity, transforming the nations.

Father, may You rule over every individual who acknowledges Jesus as the Christ, so that Your kingdom presence and power might be experienced through them in the homes and in the workplaces. Amen.
