Psalm 133 Unity Brings God’s Blessing

Psalm 133 Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord  has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

KEY THOT: Unity in the body of Christ creates a “good” and “pleasant” environment. It is like the anointing oil that flows from Aaron's head, releasing the power of the Spirit and fragrance of Christ. It is also like the morning dew that brings freshness and life.

Unity allows the Spirit that Jesus received from the Father to flow down to His Body, the Church: “Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing” (Acts 2:33). Unity releases the Spirit's power and presence in the congregation. At the same time, like the morning dew, it brings God's life to revive the spiritually dead and restore the spiritually dying. A congregation where members dwell in unity is a source of power and life.

Unity cannot be taken for granted. While it a blessing of Spirit, it is also something I have to maintain by seeking to restore the bond of peace whenever the peace is broken: “eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Eph 4:3). If I have an issue with someone (or someone has an issue with me), I cannot just ignore it; I have to take the initiative to make peace with that brother/sister to restore fellowship.

Father, thank You that You have given us Your Spirit to bind Your people in unity so that power and life may be released in the church of Christ. Help us preserve the unity of Your Spirit. Amen.
