John 20:1-18 Resurrection Event and Experience

KEY VERSE: John 20:17-18 Jesus said to her, "Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord"—and that he had said these things to her.

KEY THOT: The disciple John saw the burial cloths left intact and believed in the resurrection event. But Mary saw the Lord and had the resurrection experience. It’s not enough to believe in the resurrection event; we must also have the resurrection experience of encountering the Living Lord: “I have seen the Lord.”

I need to experience the Resurrected Lord daily so that I can continue to walk in the Resurrection Life. To experience the Living Christ I must be where He is at work. The Resurrection is not just a doctrine I believe but an experience I must enter in by sharing it with others--just as Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples and told them what Jesus had said to her. For me Alpha is an opportunity to experience His Resurrection Life and Power by sharing it with pre-believers.

My life must always be kingdom-focused, not self-focused. Only then will I experience the resurrection life—both in this age and the age to come. My life mission is not to build earthly empires (whether commercial or ecclesiastical) but kingdom communities. Personally, I don’t care much for denominational or church growth – only kingdom growth.

Father, thank You for Your resurrection event and the resurrection experience. May Your kingdom come. Amen.
