Acts 8:26-40 Philip Evangelises the Ethiopian Eunuch

KEY TEXT: Acts 8:29-30 And the Spirit said to Philip, "Go over and join this chariot." So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, "Do you understand what you are reading?"

KEY THOT: The Spirit was instrumental in evangelism and mission. Through the Spirit, Philip found himself in the right place, at the right time, with the right person and asking the right question. Listening to the Spirit and obeying His direction is the key to fruitful evangelism and mission.

I must walk by the Spirit daily, so that I can be led by Him to glorify Christ in mission and evangelism. The Spirit is in the life-transforming business and I am called to align my life work with the Spirit of mission so that when He calls, I am ready to go anywhere—like Philip.

In order to go anywhere the Spirit directs, I must not become caught up by the world’s definition of success, so much so that I cannot respond when the Spirit calls. I must adopt the attitude of Jim Elliot, the martyr-missionary to Ecuador, who wrote: “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.”

Father, thank You that through Your Spirit, You have given us a new mission and a new definition of success—viz., becoming involved in His life-transforming work. Amen.
