Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24 The Lord is My Salvation

KEY VERSE: Ps 118:14-15 The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. Glad songs of salvation are in the tents of the righteous.

KEY THOT: Salvation is not life after death, but life with God. The marks of salvation are strength and song. The righteous has inner strength and this strength is manifested in “glad songs of salvation.” A sign that a person is truly saved is a new desire to sing to the Lord.

The joy of the Lord is my strength and my joy comes from spending time in God’s presence offering him the sacrifice of my lips, viz., my songs of praise. The more songs of gladness I sing to the Lord, declaring His goodness, the more I experience His salvation and strength in my life.

When I come into God's presence, I need to come to give something to Him, not to get something from Him. One that I can offer to God is my sacrifice of praise, viz., my songs of gladness by giving thanks to Him for all the good things He has done for me in Christ. I have to be careful that my daily devotion is not just a time to get something from the Lord but also a time to give something back to Him, viz., my songs of gladness.

Father, may I continually offer to You songs of gladness because of what You have already done for me at the Cross. Fill my mouth with praise. Amen.
