Psalm 107:1-3, 17-22 God’s Word Heals and Delivers

KEY VERSE: Ps 107:20 He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.

KEY THOT: The word of God is given not just to inform but to transform—to heal and deliver us from our self-destructive ways.

God gave us His word to transform us—to change our lives, not to increase our knowledge. The word of God is "living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart" (Heb 4:12). It is to be used to remove the decaying and defiling parts of our spirit, soul and body to bring healing and health to our whole person.

The goal of the word ministry is to transform lives, not just to impart knowledge. People are struggling in their work places, their marriages and their ministries. We have good news to tell them—that God loves them and that Christ has died for them in order to heal them by delivering them out of their self-destructive habits and ways. The purpose of every bible lesson is that lives will be healed and transformed by the word of God because of what Christ has done at the Cross.

I must constantly checked the purpose of my bible lesson preparation: is it to inform or to transform? God’s word is the Sword of the Spirit. It is to be used to cut and slice off the diseased parts in our lives to restore spiritual, emotional and physical health. The goal of any bible lesson is not to stimulate interesting discussion but to motivate participants to allow God's Word and Spirit to transform their lives.

Father, I thank You that You have given us Your word to heal us, not to thrill us. May we let Your Word do its work of healing and transformation as we meditate on Your word daily. n.
