John 12:20-33 From Death Comes Life

KEY VERSE: John 12:24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”

KEY THOT: Like the grain of wheat that “dies” in the soil and becomes alive again in a harvest of new wheat stalks, so Jesus must die so that out of him may spring forth multitudes of souls with the same resurrection life.

Jesus did not die and rise from the dead to prove his divinity but to open out the way for many more lives to be raised from the dead to new life. His bodily resurrection is the firstfruit of the harvest. From this firstfruit shall come forth multitudes of new wheat stalks. All who put their faith in Christ are already dead with Christ and are raised up with him with his new resurrection life.

2 Cor. 5:17 says that whoever is in Christ is a new creation; the old has gone and the new has come. So, I have become part of the new creation, the new Adamic race of whom Christ is the Firstfruit. The old life has died with Christ when I was baptized; now a new life has begun with Christ.

It is one thing to know I am a new creation in Christ. It’s another thing to live like one. My response to what God has done for me is to live my life radically different from those who are outside of Christ so that they may also want to follow Christ. The reason I can do it is I now have the resurrection life of Christ within me.

Father, what a privilege and joy to know that we’re already in Christ and we already have the resurrection life dwelling within, awaiting for the new resurrection body at Jesus’ coming again to complete our salvation. Amen.
