Psalms 147:1-11 Reasons to Praise the Lord

KEY VERSE: Ps 147:1 Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting.

The psalmist says it’s good and fitting to sing praises to God. Praise is the only good and fitting response to God’s marvelous works in Creation and among his creatures. Hallelujah!

God is calling me to spend more time singing praises to Him, not for self-edification but to edify Him. Songs of praise are pleasant to His ears. I should do it more because of what He has already done in His creation and among his people. Praise the Lord!

I am also reminded that I can only praise God properly when I praise His creation and His creatures consistently. To praise God’s creation and creatures (people included) is to praise God himself. If we spout negatives against people, we are spouting negatives against God—and that is anti-praise.

Lord, teach me to appreciate Your creation and Your people more. Remove criticism and judgmental words from my mouth. Help me to see the good in others and affirm them, for they are all Your works. Amen.
