Psalm 22:23-31 Gospel's Goal is establishing Christ as King

Ps 22:27-31 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you. For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations. All the prosperous of the earth eat and worship; before him shall bow all who go down to the dust, even the one who could not keep himself alive. Posterity shall serve him; it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation; they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn, that he has done it.

Having experienced vicariously the suffering of Christ on the Cross, the psalmist foresees the fruit of his suffering: the nations turning to the Lord and the establishment of God’s kingship over the nations through Christ, the Messiah-King.

The Cross comes before the Crown. The Cross of suffering is the means to the goal of establishing Christ as the King over the nations. We should proclaim as Lord and King, not just Saviour and Healer. The latter is the means and the former is the end—God becoming King. God’s salvation is to bring about the Kingdom of God for which Christ is King and the Church is the Kingdom people.

In Alpha we are participating in God’s agenda of establishing Christ as Lord and King over the nations. We have to be careful not to make the Gospel a means to our OWN end (prosperity, peace and health), but to GOD'S end—establishing Christ as King in whom “all authority on earth and in heaven has been given to me”.

Prayer: Thank You Father for this glorious truth—that ultimate goal of the gospel of the kingdom is about the King and the Kingdom, not about us. Thank You for the gospel, for through it, You are re-establishing Your rightful rule over the nations and all creation so that the Church may be co-rulers in Your new kingdom, comprising of Christ as King in the new heaven and new earth. Amen.
