Mark 1:32-39 That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or oppressed by demons. And the whole city was gathered together at the door. And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. And Simon and those who were with him searched for him, and they found him and said to him, "Everyone is looking for you." And he said to them, "Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out." And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.
KEY VERSE: Mark 1:39 And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.
Jesus’ preaching was always accompanied by demonstrating kingdom presence by healing the sick and casting out demons. His word ministry cannot be separated from his works ministry because His works confirm His word: “The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves” (John 14:10-11). Jesus’ works of healing the sick and casting out demons is not optional but part of the message of the gospel of the kingdom.
God is telling me to make room in my ministry for the works of God as much as the words of God. While I’m more comfortable with the word ministry, I mustn’t forget that it is just a means to a greater end—the demonstration of the works of God, viz., transforming lives by demonstrating the Kingdom’s presence in setting people free from diseases and demons that have incapacitated them.
Through the Alpha ministry, I can make room for God to save, heal and deliver people who are lost. Whether many or few who signed up after next Wed's Intro Dinner, I will rejoice, for kingdom evangelism is a double-edged sword. The word of God will cut both ways--the outsiders and insiders, “dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Heb 4:12).
Father, I thank You for what You’re going to do through Alpha@QLC. I praise You for the works of transformation that will take place, both for the host team and also the guests. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
