Zechariah 5 & 6: Scroll, Basket, Chariots, Crown & Branch
Zech 5:1-3, 5-8 Again I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, a flying scroll! And he said to me, “What do you see?” I answered, “I see a flying scroll. Its length is twenty cubits, and its width ten cubits.” Then he said to me, “This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole land. For everyone who steals shall be cleaned out according to what is on one side, and everyone who swears falsely shall be cleaned out according to what is on the other side... Then the angel who talked with me came forward and said to me, “Lift your eyes and see what this is that is going out.” And I said, “What is it?” He said, “This is the basket that is going out.” And he said, “This is their iniquity in all the land.” And behold, the leaden cover was lifted, and there was a woman sitting in the basket! And he said, “This is Wickedness.”
Zach 6:1-5, 11-13 Again I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, four chariots came out from between two mountains. And the mountains were mountains of bronze. The first chariot had red horses, the second black horses, the third white horses, and the fourth chariot dappled horses—all of them strong. Then I answered and said to the angel who talked with me, “What are these, my lord?” And the angel answered and said to me, “These are going out to the four winds of heaven, after presenting themselves before the Lord of all the earth... Take from them silver and gold, and make a crown, and set it on the head of Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest. And say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Behold, the man whose name is the Branch: for he shall branch out from his place, and he shall build the temple of the Lord. It is he who shall build the temple of the Lord and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit and rule on his throne. And there shall be a priest on his throne, and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.”
Zechariah saw a vision of four symbols: scroll (God's law), basket (wickedness), chariots of red, black, white and dappled horses (judgments), crown (kinship) and branch (Christ). Putting these 5 symbols together, it tells us what will happen during the end-times.
God's law will be the standard for divine judgment against wickedness. I heard on CNN (I am now in Dallas) that Phil Robertson, a godly Christian and the man behind the A&E network's "Duck Dynasty", has been suspended because he said that the homosexual act is sinful as it confuses the man's anus with a woman's vagina: "it seems like to me, a vagina--as a man--would be more desirable than a man's anus. That's just me. I'm just thinking. There's more there! She's got more to offer. I means, come on dudes! You know what I'm saying? But hey, sin. It's just not logical." While his language might be too explicit, he was simply stating his conviction that homosexuality is a deviant act from what is natural. Furthermore, he based his judgment on what is sin according to God's law. A&E network suspended him because it supports the LGBT agenda. For me, sin is not only a violation of God's law, it is also a violation of Nature's law. It is unnatural as it confuses vagina which is for childbirth with anus for defecation. The purpose of sexual intercourse throughout the animal kingdom is for reproduction. And you can't get conception by mixing sperm with fecal matter.
But the Bible tells us that in these last days, there will be moral and spiritual confusion caused by the spirit of wickedness. So calling something unnatural normal is a prophetic symbol of the basket.
The last two symbols of crown on the high priest and the Branch points to Jesus Christ as the royal high-priest, the only High Priest who is also the King. At the Cross, Jesus became our High Priest, offering himself as the ultimate Sacrifice for sin. But one day, our High Priest will return as the Reigning King. He is the Branch of Righteousness which Isaiah prophesied: "There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord" (Isaiah 11:1-2).
How will we respond to all these? Either we identify with the chariots and basket or we identify with the scroll, the crown and the Branch. One will lead us to death and destruction and the other to life. The choice is ours to make. But we have to live with the consequences.
Father, You have warned us of death and destruction for those who follow Basket but life and peace for those who follow the Branch. May Your Spirit in this season of Christmas reveal to all Your perfect love for humanity. Amen.
