Another crisis--another opportunity for God to promote Daniel and exalt His name. Daniel was acknowledged even by pagan king and queen as the man who has the "the spirit of the gods"--or the Holy Spirit of God. When we have the Holy Spirit and abide in moment-by-moment fellowship with Him, people will perceive us as someone with "a keen mind and knowledge and understanding, and also the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles and solve difficult problems" (5:12). The Holy Spirit imparts gifts to believers, not just for use on the weekends among believers within the four walls of the church but to release the gifts at our workplaces among people who have contrary belief systems. The things that will mark out true believers everywhere is the ability to solve difficult problems.
Businesses are constantly confronted with different and difficult challenges. The more challenging the situation, the more the opportunity for those who have the Holy Spirit to differentiate themselves from those without the Spirit of God. The difference is the wisdom and understanding that give us the ability to be problem-solvers. Crises are opportunities God has created for Christians to glorify God and to be promoted. As a result of his ability to interpret the writing on the wall, Daniel was promoted to become the third highest ruler in the kingdom. What a jump--from just being the chief of advisers to become the prime minister next to the king and queen. The best thing was--despite the massive Merger and Acquisition by Darius the Persian that same night, resulting in the change of management, Daniel's position and authority remained unchanged because his promotion did not come from man but from God.
At the end of the day, the world is looking for solutions, not problems. When we have a reputation as a problem-solver, we will be promoted when our solutions work. Don't just raise problems at the office management meeting; offer solutions. Never be known in the office as a problem-giver, but be known as a problem-solver. Abide by the Holy Spirit daily for He alone grants us the spirit of wisdom and revelation to become problem-solvers. Every morning, the moment we are awake, our prayer ought to be, "Lord, fill me with Your Spirit. I surrender everything that is going to happen today into Your hand that Your name may be honoured through me. Amen."
Be solution-focused, not problem-focused. God will grant us His wisdom to solve daily crises we face in our office. But acknowledge that godly wisdom does not come from our past "experience" or our education, but from the ever-present Holy Spirit who alone knows everything.
Father, what a privilege we have as Your children, that You have given us the Holy Spirit to live within us. Grant us wisdom to solve our workplace challenges everyday through the Spirit who indwells us. Amen.
