1 Chronicles 26-28 Prayer & Planning
1 Chron 28:9-12, 19-21 "And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a temple as a sanctuary. Be strong and do the work." Then David gave his son Solomon the plans for the portico of the temple, its buildings, its storerooms, its upper parts, its inner rooms and the place of atonement. He gave him the plans of all that the Spirit had put in his mind for the courts of the temple of the Lord and all the surrounding rooms, for the treasuries of the temple of God and for the treasuries for the dedicated things....
"All this," David said, "I have in writing from the hand of the Lord upon me, and he gave me understanding in all the details of the plan." David also said to Solomon his son, "Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished. The divisions of the priests and Levites are ready for all the work on the temple of God, and every willing man skilled in any craft will help you in all the work. The officials and all the people will obey your every command."
David has worked out in details the plans for the building and the division of Israel for the services of the temple. However, he has attributed these detailed plans to the Spirit of God: "He gave him the plans of all that the Spirit had put in his mind" and also "I have in writing from the hand of the Lord upon me and he gave me understanding in all the details of the plan." When it comes to the holy things of God, nothing is left to chance: David's detailed plans for the allocation of duties of the priests and Levites plus the military contingents to guard the temple area were all from the Lord.
This tells us that God is the God of details and meticulous planning. Those who serve God needs to understand that being led by the Spirit does not mean having no plan and just "let it happen". David received from the Spirit details about the temple plans, down to the weight of each article used in the temple. Being led by the Spirit cannot be the justification for lack of detailed planning.
The Spirit reveals and communicates his plans to us during time of prayer and worship. Prayer often leads to revelation of specific ideas and action-plans.We pray so that we can know the mind of the Spirit and His plans for our ministry. Prayer and planning must go hand in hand. Prayer without planning will generally mean no action will be taken. If we want something to be done in the name of the Lord, we must pray in order that we can plan as the Spirit directs.
Thank You Lord that You are God of order and decency. That You delight in planning and in details. Help us to be diligent in prayer and planning. Amen.
