Psalm 37: Anger or Meekness?

Psalm 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Anger comes in various forms: fretting, resentment, grudge, unforgiveness, hatred & outbursts. Whatever form it appears, anger is self-destructive. It distorts reality and seeks to retaliate. Anger is directed towards others because the person feels a sense of injustice done to him or her by others. Jesus equates anger with murder, the ultimate form of anger.

Meekness is the opposite of anger. The meek seeks no revenge because they are totally submitted to God. The prayer of the meek is "Not my will but Yours be done.". Even in the midst of provocation & injustice, the meek accepts that all events are in God's control & He uses these events to mold our character & reveals any flaws that may lay hidden in our hearts. The fruit of meekness is peace, not strife nor stress.

But "those who wait on the Lord...shall inherit the earth" (v.9). They will exalted to position of authority to exercise the power of love & servanthood. Promotion is from the Lord.

Father, remove all traces of anger & resentment from our hearts that we may experience Your peace. Amen
